Hallo,

Have had this Token/Medal? for over a decade now. Was told it was Porcelain. Weighs 10.5 Grams.

Could someone enlighten us, please, if possible.

Thanks so much.

Hello. Welcome to the community.

I am no expert in such coins, but I believe it is a piece of "notgeld", a type of money described by Wikipedia as: "Notgeld (German for "emergency money" or "necessity money") refers to money issued by an institution in a time of economic or political crisis. The issuing institution is usually one without official sanction from the central government. This occurs usually when sufficient state-produced money is not available from the central bank. Most notably, notgeld generally refers to money produced in Germany and Austria during World War I and the Interbellum. Issuing institutions could be a town's savings banks, municipality and private or state-owned firms." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Notgeld

Some pieces of notgeld were made from porcelain, including several different designs used in Saxony. If you look at some of the Sachsen pieces of notgeld for sale on ebay, you'll see that same criss-cross pattern that you have between the dates.

Löbau is located in the Saxony region of Germany. from what I read online, it has existed from at least 1221.I would guess that when they were trying to decide on a design for this coin, they decided to commemorate their history.

This looks like a really nice piece.

This is actually a medal, not Notgeld. Notgeld from Löbau came in banknotes of 5, 10, 25 and 50 Pfennig, for what I know. It is porcelain and commemorates that Löbau had been given city status 700 years earlier. Your variant seems to be colored with some gold paint, which is one of the variants. There are a few more: plain white and plain brown/gold colored.

That's what I know about this piece.

The others are correct, this is a medal, rather than currency, commemorating 700 Years of Lobau...

Off the top of my head I do believe the white/gold version is the scarcest...

I don't think it's notgeld. I have a list and Lobau is not included.
