I was perusing the "Coins Online Newsletter" for August 2016 from the U.S. Mint that appeared in my inbox about 30 minutes ago, and it says the 2016 ASE Proofs will be released September 16th.
But when I click on the "View Full Schedule" button, the product is still listed as TBD.
When they've release ASE sets in the past, did they first release the proof and burnished versions before making the announcement? Or, did they announce the set prior to the proof being sold?
@Bret, this is (to my recollection) the latest in the year that the proof and UNC ASEs have ever been released. Normally they are out in the first couple months of the year, but due to the mandated changes in the coins for the 30th anniversary (edge-incused lettering instead of reeding, etc.), the mint wasn't able to get them out on the normal schedule.
That said, the 25th Anniversary Set was released on October 27th of 2011 (remember the fenzy?!). I'm not sure when the set was announced, but there was likely a good 6-9 months between the 2 ASE options and the 25th set (I didn't record the actual release dates of those 2 products).
If I were a betting man, I'd bet against the possibility of a 30th set as we're running out of days in the year but I do hope I'm wrong!
