Finally "completed" my Mercury dime set from junk bins. I was down to 1916 d, 1921, 1921 d. I call this complete because if I buy a 1916 d it will be slabbed and remain that way.. The only 2 coins I didn't obtain in either junk bins or trades using junk bin finds was 1921 and 1921 d. I believe I paid about $20 for the 1921 and $50 for the 1921 d (** disclaimer I also bought a 7070 from this dealer for $7, so my profit from selling it reduced the price signifgantly)

my final price on the 1921 d was $15 after quickly flipping the 7070 for $35 profit. I felt guilty as it was within minutes in a cash deal

Nice to complete a set. That 21 D looks pretty good for $50 ... Even better that used profit to cut the cost. My set is sitting in the same completion point ... Not 16 D. Also if like me ... The start of a slow upgrade process.

Nice purchases. Good luck finding a nice 16-D. I agree that keeping it in the slab is the way to go. Try taking photos of the slabbed coin, print on gloss paper, glue obverse and reverse and put the photo in your album.

I still think they look better in a Blue Whitman Album. They stand out better than the Dansco.

They do look nice in the Whitman as well. I got a good deal on a 3 album lot. 1 dansco Mercury, 1 dansco "dimes" (Mercury and Roosevelt) and the Whitman album. I gave away the Whitman because I didn't like how it included the 1942/41. I have the "vintage" deluxe Whitman for silver Washington quarters. I really like how it is compact and smaller than dansco.

That's a nice 21d for the price. I think I'm gonna pull the trigger on the 16d it's the last one I need also and my local shop has one in g4 for 480$ gonna have to unload alot of junk silver to buy it

Quote: I gave away the Whitman because I didn't like how it included the 1942/41. Good thing. Must have been an older one. The later ones include the 42D/41, 42/41 and the 45 Micro S.

If it were me I would save up and buy the best 1916-D I could afford. This is one of those coins that will probably appreciate over time especially if you buy it in superior condition. I agree I would buy it slabbed and graded and keep it that way. I have set of LSQ's and the more rare and expensive ones I bought I got them in slabs and that is how I keep them.
