Cops: Man accidentally shot at Parsippany coin show http://www.dailyrecord.com/story/ne...ow/84144812/Quote: PARSIPPANY - Two coin show vendors suffered minor injuries after one accidently discharged a gun and struck both of them, police said.
At about 1:01 p.m. May 1, Parsippany Police and Car 65 Ambulance personnel responded to the Parsippany Police Athletic League building on Baldwin Road for a report of a possible accidental discharge of a firearm, Officer Remo D'Alessandro said.
Upon arrival, officers met with the man accused of discharging the weapon - William Wetzler, 58, of Hasbrouck Heights - who was a vendor at the coin show taking place in the building, D'Alessandro said.
Never have heard of something like this happening before at a coin show. Very concerning although I can see why many dealers and collectors would want to concealed carry. Mr. Wetzler is probably going to face some substantial prison time due to New Jersey's strict gun laws.

Don't you just hate it when someone sets up right next to you, selling the same coins as you, for less.

The Walther PPK family of firearms is one of the safest pistols made. It has several modes of carry that would prevent discharge. I consider it a top choice for concealed carry. The article called it a 9mm, and while there are many types of 9mm, this would be known in the US as a .380 acp.

There was another firearm discharge at a coin show this year that did not strike anyone. I can not blame the dealers for carring with the recent number of problems.

And this is what happens when you give up safety for speed. It doesn't make sense. I've gone my entire life without having to to draw down on someone. My Dad did too, and his Dad. You read story after story of toddlers shooting their mothers after getting hold of her pistol. These are people that didn't grow up around guns and really don't have a clue.

I can tell you 100 percent that the gun wouldn't have fired accidentally if he hadn't had a chambered round. That's indisputable .

An auto loader that isn't chambered, isn't carried for protection. The Walther cannot fire with the safety on, and cannot fire when the hammer is down, unless you pull the trigger. So I ask again, what do you think happened?

Quote: So I ask again, what do you think happened? I think he had one chambered, that's what I know. Totally irresponsible in a crowded venue. I'm glad they arrested him and that he'll more than likely lose his cc. The story doesn't give much info but I imagine he was showing his gun off to the other dealer that was hit. I stand a far better chance of getting shot by people carrying chambered rounds than by a whack job shooting up a mall or theater.

52Raymo. I think every individual has their own beliefs on how to "properly" carry. I know for 100% fact I always have a round in the chamber. I did grown up with a gun shop in our house and was in the military and treat every weapon I handle as it's loaded and have the utmost respect for them. Idiots who show them around to random people and don't clear the chamber before handing a weapon to someone gives the responsible owners a bad name.
You should consider yourself lucky you have never had to "draw down" on someone. If that unfortunate time does happen that extra second or two you use to chamber a round could be the deciding factor in you going home or not.
