I thought this was Caligula? I think its listed as Augustus.

Am I wrong?

I'd like an expert opinion. Thanks all

Personally I shy away from dealers who, like this one, are on Forum's Notorious Fake Seller's List:

The fact that he has five pictures and they're all of the obverse is a red flag. I don't know much about ancients, but is the legend really supposed to face outward?

This is a well know fake seller and IMO this is a fake. Should be avoided. The piece is mislabeled IMO on purpose to draw buyers in, a denarius of Caligula is much more rare than one of Augustus.

Perfect! Thanks all for that info.

Definitely staying far from it. I usually don't like ebay for ancients but sometimes coins like this are hard to find with my budget.

Thanks again

Numisma, I'm pretty sure some coins have the legend facing outwards....I think some Vespasian Coins are like that but I'm not 100% sure, just going off memory.

This particular seller is notorious for (a) mis-describing coins, usually in his favour ie. a common coin mis-identified as rare, and (b) being either completely clueless or deliberately obfuscatory when it comes to fakes.

But I did have an interesting chat last month with a fellow from my coin club about a mis-identified English hammered coin he'd bought from this seller's ebay store for thirty quid. Turned out the coin was a super-rare variety, worth thousands. So sometimes, this seller's ignorance can work in your favour. But winning the lottery sounds like a surer bet. Avoid, avoid, avoid.
