Living in a small town and running the only real sit down restaurant has it's perks. Most folks know who I am and a few even know that I love coins. Well today I get a call from an older gentleman and he told me he had some "wheat pennies" he wanted to get rid of. I had a full crew and a light work load, so I went right up to see him. We sat and talked for a few hours about coins and then he took me to see the wheats. My jaw almost dropped when opened up one of his safes and started pulling out box after box of rolled dated cents. He is 83 years old and has been collecting since he was 5. When I finished counting the rolls there is a little over $500 face rolled. I asked how much and he said his price. It was a bit high to be honest, but as a break the ice kind of deal I paid him and loaded up my truck. I am hoping this turns out to be a long friendship, because he pulled out 6 full sets of Morgans to show me, He said he doesn't even know what he has anymore because he just keeps buying. I know he said he has 6 full safes and he could easily fill a few more. Anyways here is what $500 face looks like.

These may be truly unsearched rolls. The only thing he did was separate them by date. I saw 4 or 5 rolls that were solid 09's

Make sure you unwrap the rolls and dump all the loose cents onto your living room floor, and then dive into the pile and roll around in it. What any sensible collector would do.

Great read. I hope you are going to look for errors/varieties. A find like that would be like an early Christmas to me . Please keep us updated on what you find. Congrats.

The crazy thing is there is another local who has over $400 face that he is trying to sell me. He is just way to high on his price ~$0.10/cent he wants.

Obviously this will be the first thing I do when I have a moment of free time.

Not sure yet. I'm definitely going to need a substantial investment in time searching through them. I could just stick a Mercury dime on the end and sell them for $50 a roll on ebay.

The rolls I did look through were basically all F through Au. He said he didn't keep junk ones, from the looks of those rolls I believe him. There were a couple of blazing reds in some earlier rolls. Like I said it's going to be an investment of time going through all of these. I have over $100 face rolled by date on my desk already that I haven't even had a chance to look at.

I need to find someone local who wants to sit and look through tens of thousands of cents with me.
