Wow! First of all, Welcome. This is a very user friendly place to be. Everyone who regularly posts on these message boards is extraordinarily kind and helpful.

Again: Wow! You have/have had a generous grandfather! A lot of us, including me, are here because of our grandfathers! I don't know how to grade gold (which is not to say I do know how to grade anything else). There's a person on these boards, user name ageka, who, if you get his/her attention (which you almost certainly will), ageka will give you reliable, authoritative info on gold coinage and grades for same, etc. I think ageka is in Belgium too. Some coincidence, no? Nice coin. I have yet to own a gold coin. Sure would like to though.

Thanks for answering my message,
And I hope ageka can give me some good info.
I got this piece with another gold coin from Kennedy 1963.
I send a picture of this coin later.
It's a nice gift for starting my collection.
But I find it very hard to tell the condition off a coin.

Thanks
Greetings
Alex
Ps. sorry for the bad

Hi Smartscoops

I can see that there is a mint mark on the coin ,but I cant make it out , please what is the mint mark?

this coin has a very significant price variation for the (D)and (S) mint coin !!!

The pics are very small and a little dark to grade from with any degree of certianty, but as a guess with whats there , MS-60 possibly and most probly a 62 since Iam notorious for under grading gold coins !!

Really need the mint mark !!

Welcome to the Forum !!

Rick

Smartscoops

That is exactly the mint I was hoping for for you , that is a very very valuble coin !!

I have done a little doctoring of the scans see what you think !!!

I did however revise my grade, when I was working on the pics I took a good look, its very nice and scans do not do a coin justice in most cases, but the wing feathers and legs looks a little flat to hold the grade I gave it before !

2006 RedBook, not exactly the best price guide but as an example it will work,

For an authenticated piece,,1911-D with a bold mint mark the prices range from MS-60 $7500.00

to an MS-64 $30,000 this is what I mean by very valueble !!!

I played with the pics a bit and I'm leaning toward an AU grade. I can't be more specific without sharper images.

It is a beautiful coin. I like the incuse design on these.

I came back from some hard work so I am not at my best
The 10 dollar is not incuse is it ?
My coins are in the bankvault so I cannot go and look

As for this coin without better picture I would go no further then
XF grade
I put it next to the 300 dpi of the MS63 I have (jpegged)

Alex
If you are scanning the coin set your scanner at
300 dpi color and then jpeg the picture at 75% quality
setting and you should get a picture like mine
Then I could help you further

And please scan all heads with the light coming from above
the head and not from below the head
the coins will look a lot better
