Hi all, I am desperately in need of advice! Am I wrong to be suspicious that these are counterfeits and/or cleaned or otherwise manipulated? The seller just started selling coins, no feedback, some apparently very high grade key dates and varieties, several with lookalike unique toning, suddenly is selling "a good friend's large inherited coin collection". Does offer returns though. Some nice stuff but I am nervous. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1808-CAPPED...AOSwR5dXRNanThanks all.

Looking over some of the auctions, I see a mix of authentic and questionable coins. Regardless, most of them look to have some kind of problem like altered color or a cleaning. Coins with this kind of valuable should be slabbed, and you have to wonder why they are not.
I would be very careful and not recommend buying unless you are extremely familiar with how to identify counterfeits. You should never feel pressured to buy from one seller, there are many sellers out there to choose from.

The seller appears to be running some type of scam. The seller plays the end of roll game and all the feedback (11) is from buying. Most of the toned coins have questionable toning. The seller has sold over 70 coins, but not one feedback as a seller. I would pass as there is too much risk buying from this seller.

My question would be what makes this seller, who purports to be merely liquidating a friend's inherited collection, such an expert? How much faith can be placed on his assurances as to condition and guarantee of authenticity? What little feedback there is comes all from buying, not selling, too. Even if there's no ill intent here, I'd stay away from the likes of this.

On May 3, 2016, this user changed his/her userid from jac_ziegl. Check ebay userid history.

Most of the coins look genuine to me but there are a few questionable pieces while the genuine pieces all seem to have some problems. Take a pass here unless you're a gambling man.

All of the sold listings are recent enough to not have feedback from the buyers. Sure hope ebay is holding the funds waiting for buyer feedback.

My rule when even considering dealing with sellers like this, even if everything looks legit (and this is very far from looking legit, it looks like the usual ebay scam) is to never bid any money I can't afford to lose permanently.

Looks authentic but you really never know. It does state there is a return policy though. Only thing that bothers me is how many times you hear I'm selling these for a friend, a relative, etc. Or why not say UNSEARCHED, since every one else does. Why even have to say that at all. If your selling coins, just say I'm selling coins.

I just looked at all of the coins. They all appear genuine to me.
The 1808 CBH has been cleaned and retoned, no question about it.

It sounds like the used car salesman saying "this car was owned by 90 year old great, grandmother who only drove it five miles a week and kept in the garage the rest of the time. All these coins should have been graded since all are old and some like the "flowing hair" coin is a wonder. Someone said here if you buy a coin for more than $100 on ebay buy it slabbed and graded. Sellers lie like rugs about condition and defects and damage when they say coin "Is real nice and I am almost crying when I sell it".
