Being as it's not a coin are those mintages in line with previous medals? Anyway it is a cool medal for a good price. Proof finish on ASE planchets for $34.95 - hard to go wrong.

Medal or not, but there were quite a few who simply could not afford the corresponding gold coin who now look forward to this offering. Mintages seem very low in my opinion. Probably 10k orders, that's it... These will sell out quickly.

I am very surprised at the 12,500 mintage limit for each version of the medal. I expected it to be 10x or more of that number. The last time the Mint produced a silver medal on ASE planchets - the 9-11 National Medal released in 2011 - the total mintage limit was 2 million. It didn't come close to selling out, however, so I figured the Mint would drop back from that number but didn't expect something in the range of 1% of the 9-11 medal's limit. It appears we might have another "feeding frenzy" situation on our hands on August 23rd.

So we go from 2 million total from both mints to 25k total from both mints... 70k of the "P" version sold 120k of the "W" version sold original cost of the 2011 medal: Quote: The introductory $56.95 medal price will last two months from its initial June 20 release date. Should the 9/11 medal inventory hold out past 5:00 p.m. ET on August 18, 2011, the regular price of $66.95 goes into effect. they are now selling around $27-29 Hmmmm....sounds very low for ANYTHING silver from the Mint but will there be interest? Spot silver was the culprit ranging from $47 weeks before issue to $37 just after

I really like how these look, I am in for one of each mint mark, as they are reasonably priced in my opinion. I think it should be pointed out that 12,500 is the product limit, not mintage limit, so the mint could conceivably mint more and include them in another product.

This is certainly a possibility. This potential is briefly discussed here: Silver American Liberty MedalI think a key point raised is that the Mint does not typically cap the mintage of the medals it strikes. It has on some occasions (e.g., National Wildlife System silver medals of 2003), but it is not typical.

Since I doubt I'll have time to add both to cart before sellout, I wonder which I should go to first?

Good luck to all hunting! Low mintage and all, but I don't much care for the design for keeping and if I tried reselling I don't know if there would be much of an interest on the secondary. Hope all who wants one can get one though. :)

A two medal set (one from each mint) would make for a good second product offering.
