Sometimes picture settings and lighting will throw off what a coin really looks like ... In hand.
But from this picture this coins has a older cleaning. The chemicals used caused it to have the color toning.
This is just my opinion ...

Cleaned and / or worn, now retoning. Current tone won't help with value, just eye appeal for some.

If you had this coin in your possession and never had any toning until now then it can't be artificial toning . I believe there was an old cleaning long ago ,but I'm not sure if that's what brought on this mild rainbow. could also be how and where you stored this coin, thus making this an environmental issue .

Perhaps it is unintentional artificial toning. Stored, perhaps, in a paper envelope?
What is natural vs artificial toning? Perhaps, just a factor of time.

Looks like someone took a stab at cleaning and then gave up for some reason. Might have used a pencil eraser.

I'm curious- what are the indicators that lead many of you to state the coin has an old cleaning? Thanks.

Quote: I'm curious- what are the indicators that lead many of you to state the coin has an old cleaning? Thanks. Shermae, note the amount of wear on the coin. The high-relief areas are shiny-looking, metallic; the low-relief/hard-to-reach areas are dark, and very contrasting. Well-worn coins from circulation are dark and brown, it cannot be helped, the oils from your skin make sure of that. That said, there are many mysteries here, due to the photo quality. Camera settings and lighting can hide or alternatively exaggerate much about a coin. I am kinda with Coinfrog on this. My immediate reaction is that it's a whizzed coin, but when I look longer, it looks more like someone took a buffing wheel to it, and briefly. It has definitely since retoned, and I believe that it is not intentional toning. In my experience, those Lincolns with old cleanings often went straight into someone's Dansco, and there it stayed for 30+ years. That's all it takes sometimes.

I contacted the seller and he said that couldn't recall where the coin had been storaged , wouldn't expect nothing different from a busy seller with almost 20k feedbacks on ebay lol About the picture , I didnt change my cellphone camera settings to take it, just tried a better angle and light to be able to show the toning , thanks for answering mamastinky

Coinfrog , Your giving away your age . I used that same method when I was a kid before I started collecting .

Paola, I don't necessarily think it is a cleaned coin. I think the pink tones are making the reflections look red. I would put money, though, that it's got album toning. So, the question is, do you like it? That's all that matters, no matter what anybody says. I keep what I like, and I have some pennies that have come along that I cannot tell whether the toning is natural or not but I saved them anyways, because I love the look, and they will never be worth much either way. For toners, it's often just comes down to opinion, anyways.

The point here is whether it has been cleaned, which I think it has been (just my opinion). Of course keep it if you like. We're just talking about things to look for if you're concerned about a possible cleaning, which greatly affects the value of any coin.
No Lincoln in this grade would exhibit natural rainbow toning in the upper right quadrant as shown.
