Possible Encased Coin at one time. A typical clash for cents, be it die or collar don't leave that design.

The grooved in edge also makes me think inward compression of some sort. Thanks, Doug.

No clash would line up with that. It is without a doubt some sort of post strike damage. Whether it was encased at one time or someone started trying to make the edge of the coin look "cool".

It looks like an alteration to the coin. Why? Who knows. But the strike would not have left the edge looking like that. PSD
