I purchased this $20 bill with missing serial numbers and treasury seal, thinking it was missing the third printing. When I got home I checked the book, and the third printing includes serial numbers, treasury seal and Federal Reserve numbers. On my bill the fed. res. numbers are present, so it is not missing the third printing. In the pictures you can barely see some green where the numbers should be, but the seal is not present. The printed "twenty" has not been disturbed. Thoughts anyone?

Quote: Ink runned out on print press? I know nothing about paper money runs and printing stages but that guess makes sense to me as you can see a faint green serial number starting with L at the top right.

We need better pictures, but from afar, it looks like someone got fancy with bleach.

The OP's note has all the hallmarks of a fake error note.
The third print is partially there. The district seal and all 4 district numbers (12) are where they are supposed to be, yet the Treasury seal and serial numbers have magically vanished. My experience tells me that someone has manipulated this note. I may be wrong, but this simply doesn't happen.

Hey, yontan.. do you have a scanner? Notes image very well on scanners, if you had a scan to show us that would help a LOT.

That might help. Agree this looks improbable.

I also am suspicious, but have seen genuine bills with missing single treasury seals. I have included several more pictures, quite close up. I have no scanner, but do have a stereo microscope camera. I noticed the green numbers were originally shifted exactly 2 centimeters down, placing the letter L touching the top of the 2 in 12. The green ink is embedded in the black ink of the 2, but does not in any way disrupt it. Also, while the seal is missing, the very bottom does show above Baker's name. The seal would have been above the twenty, but that ink is not disturbed, and since it is an EF note, the grime on the note is also intact. While the third printing is a complete impression, would it be possible for the green ink to simply run out, while the black ink did not?
