Smallcentguy, excellent idea, a guessing poll.
$25,000 just popped into my head, wild guess. Unique auction items are difficult to predict.

I don't it will make the reserve. I think it will be pulled from the auction because it is a counterfeit.

There is a long time Toronto area dealer had an oversized lead version of the 11 dollar, was conversing with The Royal Mint trying to prove it's providence, has some documentation it's some sort of official display piece can't remember what he was asking, so there are other versions out there, doubt it will meet reserve. To me it's slightly better than a Franklin mint version.

Quote: I think it will be pulled from the auction because it is a counterfeit. This most definitely will not happen... because it is not a counterfeit.

It's not a counterfeit because it's a model/pattern made on order by the mint.

Due to the fact it only brought 2100 Pounds sterling as Lot 1702 in the March 2013 DNW auction , I think the seller and auction house are just a touch optimistic at 10 K reserve. Especially in this coin market. 10000 right now could get you some very nice coins for a fraction of what they sold for just a few years back. That price for the 1911 electro type , ( even though I would like to own it) is just a touch rich. The previous lot in the 2013 DNW auction was a set of the Famous BC gold by Kuner in a fitted case as Lot 1701 . That lot sold for 2100 GBP as well.

That's great info on this coin, and the related other versions out there, also it's close value.

That may take a lifetime ;) I found a F12 in a junk lot of silver on ebay a year or so ago for $800. It's now sitting in a PCGS holder...5th finest known ;)

CV if you had your electrotype graded F by PCGS there's no reason why they wouldn't grade this one for sale, they've also graded the 1804 U.S. Electrotypes. I wonder how many 1911 electrotypes exist? As per the video I posted in the other 1911 thread, in regard to the 1804's, there had to be a great deal of provenance for PCGS to consider grading them.

I think CV posted in the wrong thread (I would assume he was talking about the 1906 25c small crown thread)...

The current poll results, guessing the selling price of the 1911 electrotype, is quite fascinating - 18 say bah it won't make reserve and another 15 say sure maybe anywhere from $10000 to $50000+. A group of people who share a common interest, yet very diverse opinions of value for this unique item......

I was one of those who said it would not make the reserve going on the basis of whether I would pay that or not.
It would be nice to have but as Jack stated, for $10,000 there are many other coins that I want that I could buy with that money.
I'm not saying it won't sell, because there are people with the money that will pay whatever if they want it bad enough. (Just watch the Barritt Jackson Auction sometime) It just won't be me.
