1969 D Lincoln Memorial Cent / LMC Struck Through Grease? Lots Going On With This One, Help :)

hoppyg Valued Member United States 89 Posts	Posted 06/27/2016 01:42 am I found a strange LMC tonight CRHing. It is one of the coolest looking coins I have found, but not sure what is going on. The obverse appears to be struck through something, guessing grease, but the bust has something going on in Lincoln's hair and ear area. The reverse also displays MD along ONE CENT and the base of the memorial. Let me know what you all think. Thanks for any insight, it ia greatly appreciated! Report this Post to the Staff

MontCollector Pillar of the Community United States 2403 Posts	Posted 06/27/2016 01:50 am to CCF I'm no expert...but I want to take a guess and see if I have learned anything as I have just started collecting LMC/LWCs I see a MAD(slightly offset as well? Is this possible? ) coin with a Struck Through Grease obverse and Machine Doubling in some devices. I could be way off so lets see what the pros say. coop Bedrock of the Community United States 62064 Posts	Posted 06/27/2016 09:59 am Struck through a thinning die cap. Note the rim. The rim is not square in share, slightly rounded. Devices weakened because the die cap is getting thinner. (eventually it will fall off) The reverse is showing machine damage after the strike.
