I used to daily enjoy sitting down and going through everything on CCF. I miss doing that. Those were the days I was still working on a book and was using CCF as a good (sometimes too long) break from the research and writing.

Now I have had my 2nd son and family remodeling the basement (my grandkids are not longer 2000 miles away ) as an apartment to move into for awhile. obama's needless war on coal killed the economy where he was in Utah, so there were no jobs. He had to come East to get work.

And... another good thing, although it takes up forum time, is when I do have some time where I can do something, I have been cherry picking through my Dad's accumulation he had that was passed to him by his father. So its been a great learning experience looking through everything from cents to dollar coins.

Have I found much? Over the last few months I have found a few things like a weak motto 1934 Washington, several doubled die Roosevelts and JFKs, and am now trying to figure out VAMs. There is a large box of loose Wheaties to go through and so I am learning all about RPMs DDOs, and DDRs I knew nothing about before. I only have about 25 Morgans and Peace dollars to try to ID - but am finding for someone with no knowledge in this area, it will take time to ID them all exactly. The Ikes were easy... but nothing there.

And after all of this... well, let's say I have only touched the tip of the iceburg. So do I cherry pick, or do I sit on the internet?

After I get done (who knows when), I want to start taking pics and actually moving some of the extras.

Add to this I am still writing articles for the insulator hobby and also a dealer at insulatorshows to sell my book, well... unfortunately it does not leave a lot of time for being on CCF

I think about CCF while during hours of cherry picking, so maybe after I finally get through everything, I will be able to be more a part of the CCF family again. I miss that. I also know I am living a dream of many who wish they had a lot of old coins to cherry pick, so it is enjoyable.

Sounds like you have a full life Earle! I think you might be the curious type and as such, there are plenty of distractions. No worries; we are here for when you need to give yourself a timeout.

Is your second book on insulators too?
Rest in Peace

Face it, you've become insulated from numismatics.

LOL! Actually, the funny part about it is that I did not even get one new insulator at the show! I was there to do a seminar they asked for and to sell more books to get the printing bill paid off. I have only had the book to three large shows since I published it though. So how many coins have I gotten in that time? Quite a few actually. One more big show in a month. After that I am going to offer it to more dealers to sell at shows I don't get to.

@Joe
Thanks. Yes - two main sites. One is insulators.info and the other is NIA.org. The former has everything from a picture gallery (with many topics) to cleaning instructions and history. The latter is the National Insulator Association and where to go to Identify a piece you might have. If you ever have questions, also feel free to contact me. If I cannot answer the question, most likely I can direct you to the proper people. Although large, (not compared to coins), the main body of insulator collectors in the mainstream of the hobby are great people and as friendly and honest as the majority of CCF people are.

@earle42, I found it surprisingly difficult to find an appropriate insulator meme.

It sounds like you're well and very active -- so that's great.

Sorry your son had to move to look for work but it's great that you'll have him at home again.

Enjoy searching through that collection.

Kevin and I send our best to you and your wife.

@Buddy - Thanks so much. I hope you and Kevin are doing great. See you at the National insultor show in Muncei, IN at the end of July? LOL! Was it really that long ago now? Wow!

@spence
LOL! The original of this pic went through the insulator hobby like a storm when it hit the internet. To collectors the Romanian insulators on the pole gave away what country.

I have never seen it with this caption before and wish I had thought of it! Thanks for the laugh. This pic was also featured in an issue of the monthly insulator magazine, Crown Jewels of The Wire.*, and a good friend of mine was surprised when his sister made a painting of it for him for Christmas a couple years ago.

Here is a better of the original:
