Never saw anything like that hair! I have no idea but I'll be back to see what the experts have to say.

Wow, I saw something totally different. The Texas coin is a great earlier die state coin. (note how it smiles nicely for the camera) No die flow lines, smooth fields. Note how the light enhances Georges' face. The hair. I've always referred to this as spaghetti hair.

Well that's good to know, I was sorta concerned because of all the door cracks in it. It is a good looking coin tho

What is a "door crack"? If you meant die crack - where is it?

Yea, I meant die cracks. Look at the reverse side, they're everywhere and prominent.
And thanks coin master! ;)

Are you sure those aren't die polishing marks instead of cracks?

So I take it this not normal. What do you think caused it? A partially filled die maybe?

Well, possibly. A good majority of them do seem to swirl around the coin, clockwise. But, there are several that don't. One in the TEXAS that starts at the rim, n/w of the T and runs under the E and very bottom of the X; From the 4 under the 5; the west corner of Texas... and many that don't follow the patterns of the rest. H here's a few on the obverse side as well, like the ones that runs through or under QUARTER. So really, I don't know.

I'm talking about the blank fields at the ear and base of the neck.

I was thinking a partially filled die... really other than a die polish, I have no idea what could have caused it

It's too clean to have been polished. The lines on the reverse are probably from polishing though, they would go underneath the devices, as the devices are incuse on the die.
