EPL appears wider than usual, class 6? Dots between EPL also look suspicious.

That mark on the 'D' is a master die issue:

The black around the date is part of a finger print that has already done its damage to the coin.

The reverse looks like it has a shot at a DDR. Larger images of the device on the EPU are would show us more to see what Die number it might be.

That just confirms it for me. The "egg" shape gives it away. Nice one!

Initially it was the golf club appearance of the L that got my attention. Thx CoinCollector2000

Had a feeling the D was a master die issue...can you make out the die gouge inside the C of CENT or the crack near designers initials?

No...the die gouge inside the C I don't see, the initials are super weak and hardly visible, die crack not seen.
On this coin, right of the wheat ear is a die scratch/crack that'd be a perfect pick up point. Not seeing it listed though.

Not knowing the D was an issue for so many coins already as coop has pointed out, coppercoins lists it as a marker for the 005, quote from CC's: "Die damage shows to the right of the D of GOD. Obverse is LDS." You'd think if I that issue was on every D, why would they mention it as a marker?

It was considered as a marker when it was listed years ago. Now we know it is very common. They didn't know that back then.
