I am not sure if this is the right place and I didn't want to list the seller's name in case it isn't.
I am watching a LSH and saw the price appeared to be quite high with about 1 day left. I looked at bids and saw only "Private Listings". I looked at a few of the seller's other items and noticed all (not only all the items but all of the bids!) showed "Private Listing".
What's up with this?
Seems fishy and I'd like to let everyone know. Should I list the seller's ID?

What is the purpose of this from a seller's stand point when the coins are not high ticket items, common Kennedy or Franklin halves, for example?

I've often heard advice to stay away from any private listings. And I did so, not least because all of them were spurious anyway.
But yes, I'd like to hear what the point from the sellers perspective is.

I had sold on ebay from 1998 to April 2006.. In the 7+ years, I only had 2 private listings, each above $1,000 (as recommended at the time).. Other then higher valued items, I see no other reason for a Private listing.. I also think ebay has lost all credibility in the "Honest Auction Venue" in recent years..

Yeah, the private listings are a bit tedious, but I'll still bid if the price is reasonable.

To confirm what T-BOP says about protecting shill bidders, I once bid on an item before I noticed the seller was shill bidding not only that item, but about half dozen others as well. I confronted him on it (should have reported him instead) and within a couple of days all his listings were "Private Listings". There was no way to prove he was shill bidding then. Now if I see items have Private Listings, I just move on. No need to have all items listed that way.
