CCF is therapy for me.

I agree. While talking about coins isn't the same as purchasing coins, it does "scratch the itch" somewhat.

I started buying things to sell just to keep active. Its not much of a hobby if you're just buying 2-3 coins a year for the collection.

I think you are stuck with the addiction! For various reasons I dropped out of the hobby for three years and barely looked at my collection at all. Then recently I got looking at them again and I'm right back into the thick of things. Haven't started buying yet but that will change very soon. Heck, I'm already planning to go to a huge coin show next month where I know I will spend way too much money!

Not an easy thing if your really a coin collector. However, there have been many times in my past where I couldn't either get to a coin show or there just wasn't any for a while. Just have to acquire more the next time.

@Bosstown: click 'switch to full reply' and enjoy all the options you have there.

@sel_69: 'Numistmatitis'. I vote it 'word of the year' already.

Anyway, to avoid this situation, I have a nice spare bulk of unsorted world coins to go through and keep me busy. Sort of 'open lid in case of numismatic emergencies'. Although I soon must get me a new bulk again, I'm afraid, as the current one will be done soon. Fortunately my local coin shop has vacation until halfway August... Anyway, such bulks always contain an amount of coins which are unknown to me and give me something new to study on.

You got the "coin collecting" Jones. It could be worse. It could be dope, gambling, alcohol, etc. You could be a hoarder like I see on "Pickers" where every square inch of your house is filled with junk. Coins can be put into books and sort of organized. This is why I try to complete a one set at a time to avoid going crazy. My wife can go to a yard sale and fill the truck with junk for $20. I we owned a barn and a couple of extra houses it would be fine, but we don't.

You see some of these old 90 year old guys who have tons of semi-valuable junk and then die and leave it to their grandkids to sort out? With coins you can always sell them if you want to or better yet leave the cream of the crop to someone. The guy here whose father or grandfather left him almost a full set of Morgan CC's dollars in mint condition is a really fine thing. As good as cash or better.
