In the 70s and 80s, my Grandfather always bought the maximum 5 allowed proof sets thinking they would increase in value. He only ordered two of the 1976 Silver Bicentennial sets.

Guess which are the only ones that retained their value?

Adjusting for devaluation of the dollar, and the lack of people wanting them, he paid a lot more for those clad sets than what I could pick them up for today (some close to face value).

However, the sets are all still beautiful (large proof Ikes and JFKs in them ), and they are certainly priceless for the memories attached. I could never get one off of ebay that would mean as much to me.

The ones that weren't silver? I'm not sure I just know silver is higher!

I have been collecting the silver proofs for the last ten years. When I decided to fill in a few holes, I went with APMEX rather than eBay/

Just so that everyone is aware this thread is not abandoned and that the proof set has not come yet! It's gonna come some time this upcoming week since this week it didn't come! I know I'm gonna get the icon so please be patient while we wait! Obviously it isn't moving quickly through the Post Office!

Proof set arrived today! I'm quite impressed so far with the set, being that it's the last year of the Presidential $1 coins, is quite a thing to behold! Now, let's show pics!

I apologize for some light glare, but I am quite pleased with the quality of the coins! I think since 2011 they've made it to where you can see the rims of the coins. Now if I'm wrong please correct me, as I think I'm close to the date if I'm wrong.

Now, hope everyone drools in awe!

Was there supposed to be a special Silver Proof set for 2016? I remember something about it in Coin World but never heard anymore about it.
Does anyone know what's supposed to be in it and if it's still coming with the new rules.

Definite Travis! Beautiful for sure! I just ordered my 2016 set on Tuesday so it will be here soon.

Zisky. The 2015 Limited edition silver proof set was cancelled last year and the 2016 set is still showing TBD so I am assuming it will be out later this year. Looks like the US Mint has a busy 4 months ahead of them.
