AgDigger,
The lighting on this coin makes it difficult to drill down on a definite # because of the diffusive photographic noise.
The coin evidently has luster from the cartwheel effect shown on all four shots.
In cases like this I would recommend a more axial shot of the patina to accentuate any hidden nicks or dings.
With shiny proof-like coins I often display both a diffusive and axial view to respectively highlight the luster and surface integrity of the surfaces.

Also, try diffusing your light a little, i.e., if that's flash, put some white paper in front of the flash head to make a sort of "soft box".

Both coins look MS-65 in these photos.

the first one looks like it might make 65, the second one looks a little nicer, 66 would not surprise me, however, that depends on the dull areas around the chin, eye and forehead. could be just lighting. if the luster is unbroken you probably have a 66

Agree, the second one might make 66. I can't judge the first one given the lighting and lack of sharpness in the obverse pic.

I would think MS-65 for both of the coins, but it is hard to tell with these pictures.

The pictures make it difficult to be precise, but they both seem UNC. 1885-S's come very nicely struck with lots of luster. My guess is there're both MS 63.

The NGC coin seems under graded, the raw coin doesn't look as nice in your second set of photos.

Agreed 100% IGE. The possible under-grade is what motivated me to purchase and post. Both are strong coins by my standards and the raw will serve as a needed Dansco upgrade. I tried to diffuse the lighting as suggested, but my camera may need an upgrade as well. Thanks again all. AG D
