so I have been saving pennies for some months now and I decided to go through them since I have a decent amount and see what I could find. I did find a few that interest me but so far this one is my best find out of the bunch. What is the quality of this gorgeous penny? and is it a keeper for a nice penny collection? Is there any worth?

If you want to learn how to grade look here http://www.PCGS.com/Photograde/
As to if it is a keeper,I would use it as a place holder in a folder until I found an up-grade.

Nice find out of circulation. The 1901 is a common date in grades of good to very good sells for around a dollar on ebay.

to the forum! That is a pretty good find - it really sticks out and makes you wonder how many times it's been passed in the last 115 years.

That's the thing for me: history. While I'm always looking for an upgrade in my specific collections, circulated coins like this one remind me of what coins are all about, passing from one hand to the next through (often) a lot of time.

Keep showing us what you come across.

Hey, I haven't learned the site well yet, so I don't know how to properly respond individually. I had no idea and the link will be of some good use. Still researching and learning. Never knew I had a interest in the finds and searches until now. I was just saving penny's. Thanks btw

The other thing you should do is get a copy of the RedBook price guide. It has prices for all US coins of all denominations, going back to Colonial times. It will give you an idea of what your finds are worth, and it can also help you to know what dates are special and should be looked for.

Is it a keeper?

Are you asking if you should put it back into circulation?

That would be no. It does have value.

For the grade it is a nice looking coin. I think the grade
would be in the G4 to VG 8 range. In this grade they sell
in the $1.00 range. A coin dealer might give you .25 cents.

Value? About a buck. Very common and well worn.
