I am looking to see if there is anyone that would like to share a story about what they may have in regards to original wrapped rolls of coins, any denomination, as long as they are not "put together" rolls for coins prior to 1940.
I have read of original rolls of coins going back to 1900 in various denominations being still found and sold into the 1980's. I am curious to hear from collectors and dealers as to what they may still have, have seen, or have handled over the years. I have recently saw several auctions for paper wrapped rolls of Morgan and Peace dollars, which I assume were from the 50's, but was not the successful bidder on any of the rolls and do not know.
I am certain that the survival rate is quite low, possibly non existent for some dates/denominations. But I am also certain that there are a few surprises out there awaiting discovery as well. Any thoughts?

Closest I can offer is that somebody bought an antique Model-T and found a roll of cents that had been there since the 40s (the car was previously owned by a few teenagers who ran it until it died). They opened up the roll and it had a surprising number of older coins from the teens and 20s, apparently including a scarcer daye (forget what it was).

Slider, welcome to the forum. All of those auctions showing Original bank rolls are only there to make the seller money. There are NO ORIGINAL BANK ROLLS from that time period.

there is a very cheap device you can purchase that will crimp the ends of a roll to make it look "Original"

I would imagine the 2 end coins are really nice, however all of the inside coins will be culls.

stay away from these auctions.

Well, I am always skeptical of anyone that has original rolls from prior to 1940, but my questions are more of the sort aimed at people that have actually owned or handled material in prior years.

I know recently a seller on ebay was offering "original Peace dollar rolls" even though they only came in bags originally. One review of his stated they sent in coins from the "original roll" to be graded and it came back details. So not only was the roll not original, the coins had been lightly cleaned to try and make them look better.

I've been looking for rolls of Mercury dimes myself but haven't found them. I'm not sure if they ever came in rolls either.

While not U.S. coins, I did recently purchase a roll of 32 British India bronze 1939 1/4 Anna coins. The seller, who is in India, said they were original and they came in a very old-looking and fragile paper wrapper/roll.

The coins all look to have similar toning, so I assume they have been together for a long time.

I've got some early 1940s rolls of BU Lincolns, but none were bought with the claim they were original rolls.
