I've started a bit of a miniscule collecton:
Silver purity (multiples of .1). So far I have:
10% (Mexican 1 Peso 1957-1967)
30% (Mexican 1 Peso 1950)
40% (Most Swedish Junk silver, 1942-1971)
50% (1920-1946 UK silver coinage)
60% (Swedish 25- and 50-Öre coins, 1874-1941)
70% (Czechoslovakian 10 Korun 1931)
80% (Swedish 1- and 2-Krona coins 1875-1942)
90% (US junk silver -1964)

The only purity I'm missing is 20%. Now, I've found two examples browsing coin catalogues, one is Chile, 20 Centavos 1891 and another is the Kingdom of Italy, 10 Centesimi 1808-1813. Either way, I'm looking for something cheap and common. Anybody got any ideas?

Definitely an odd fineness. May be a couple more to choose from...

Why not include more of the old standard assays? UK used 925 fine for centuries (Sterling).

Or you could use the variable standards that were brought on by cycles of economic revision.

Netherlands used 945,912,893,873,868,720,640,569
Peru used 925,903,900,896,800,500

I don't know if anyone has ever bothered to make a complete list, but that could be fun too.

That's an interesting take on collecting silver coins!

Poland used 750 for the interwar circulation silver coins and 625 or 750 for most communist-period commemoratives (some of which are particularly inexpensive).

If you're thinking of collecting all of them, The German states used a lot of different standards. Hessen alone had 166, 250, 281, 312, 343, 350, 375, 437, 583, 625 in the 19th century (in addition to the more widespread 500, 750, and 900).

My best bet is to find something from the Habsburg / Austrian / Austro-hungarian era or maybe something from Bohemia. A lot of coins with low silver content were made there. There must be some billon out there that matches your wishes. I'm not sure if that will be cheap by any standards, but it might be worth a search.

Nevertheless, nice collection!

There were some Honduras Real-pieces that had 20% silver contnent, might be lloking for those.

I'm really just looking for even multiples of .1 this time. Granted, I do have plenty of silver coins with many finesses, as to why I have most of them. I could technically add an ASE as 100% silver, but it specifies that is .999 silver, not 1.000 silver.

Otherwise, thank you all for giving me some more examples of 20% silver coins. Definitely not common, but they exist.

Numista gives 15 coins (aside from the Roman antoniniani) - the Chile 20 centavos you mentioned, Honduras 1 and 2 reales, Westphalia 10 and 20 centimes, a smattering of assorted Italian states (which on Numista includes the Kingdom of Italy, for some reason), and two coins from ancient India.
The Kingdom of Italy coin seems to be the most common (um, least rare) by far (and a worn example is apparently on sale right now on ebay for $11).

[EDIT: apparently that 10 centesimi is actually 10 soldi. But an actual 10 centesimi is being offered for under $30 as well, anyway.]

The very idea of collecting by fineness (though not restricting oneself to multiples of 10%) becomes more and more interesting the more I read about it. Are you certain you don't want to expand?
