Poll Question
Not to get into much details right now but I won an auction for a Choice AU 1921 Morgan but received Choice higher grade 1896 Morgan by mistake... The seller said I could keep the coin if I wanted to or I could send it back and get the one that I had won... I have limited time to keep this or return it (but I did offer them a deal for this one and get the other one as well but I am waiting on a response from them)...

So if you had a choice between the two, which one would you take?

I'd probably keep the 96, the 21 looks to have a rim issue at 9 o'clock on the obverse. the reverse of the 21 looks a lot better than the obverse, almost looks like a different coin.

Well I just found out that I can't keep this coin since it is still an active auction so I went ahead and put a bid in and I am currently winning so hopefully I can get both of them... If it wasn't for the fact that it was an active auction they would have done the deal but their hands are tied...

Hopefully, I'll win this one and keep both!

Both does sound like the way to go if the price is right. I reluctantly clicked 96 in the poll; it can be hard to say from a single image, but the luster of the 21 looks nicer to my amateur eye. But, the 21 is a far more common coin, yes? So I picked the 96. :)

It is hard to tell from the scan, but I would grade the 1896 at XF45 or AU50. On the reverse there is wear on the eagles head, so the lack of breast feathers appears to be wear.

How about a check box for "neither"?
Rest in Peace

The '96 looks like a dud from the scanned images. I would return it and retract the bid on it. The '21 looks ok with the exception of the rim ding but depending on the price paid may be ok.

some good comments made here......I'd take the 1896 if given the choice but I'm not a huge fan of either.

Well I won the auction on the 1896 today so I will now have both coins and this poll is now moot... They are going to pay for the shipping and knock a few bucks off so everything worked out... The 96 looks better in person than the picture shows so I'm hoping the 21 looks better as well... Even though I didn't plan on this happening, either way, I am satisfied with the outcome...

Thanks everyone for your input, it is greatly appreciated...

I would take neither.
The 1921, as well as being a common date, has a large rim flaw at 9 o' clock on the obverse.
The 1896 is sparkly, pale, dipped, and in no way original.
