Thank you Fuzzy. Well is there another website online do you know of that one might be able to join that doesn't require professional picture taking lol cause not all of us can easily get these close up pictures under a microscopes. But I have to say many of us in often hear our pictures are hard to be able to be seen. I've been in here for about a year now and the noticed unless you've been doing this for a long time and have the equipment to get some good qaulity close ups your pictures are no good to put out there to get an opinion. I believe when I joined I was under the impression this site was for families to have fun and be able to learn at the same time, but as I have seen it appears you actually need to be a professional coin collector and have the tools in order to get the best picture possible if you want to get an opinion or not. Most of us go through a great deal trying to get the best picture possible with what little source we may have to take that picture. It's a disaapointment to try so hard to be told your pictures are terrible and not of professional qaulity. Is there other sites out there someone (of the average person) can take a picture and get an idea if that coin is truly something one might want to check out further? I am not trying to be disrespectful towards anyone but trying to find the right group that an amature coin searcher can join and have fun learning about the hobby they love most.

Looking at your images, the size of the devices all loo normal sized. A machine damaged coin would reduce the size of the devices a bit. I feel that is what you have.

What are you using for your source of images?

The problem with pixelated images is usually caused by an image that is too small, enlarged too much, leaves you with that result. If you can enlarge the size of the images to the maximum setting on your camera source/scanner, then you will be ahead of the ball game. Enlarging the image size on the source will give you better images, that can be cut down with image software that will get you better results.

A second issue with your images is glare. Glare is covering what you are trying to show. So a diffused light source will remove unwanted glare. Even a plastic grocery bag made into a curtain between you light source and coin will help remove some glare. The larger the light, the more diffusing you will need. You might need white bond paper to reduce the glare. Here is the setup I use for full coin images:

For close up images, I use a microscope. I know they are pricey, but there are different methods others use that are not as expensive:

All my suggestions may/may not work. It depends on what you are using. Explain your setup and we can go from there.

Mdnyte,

Sorry you feel that way, but many new users post wonderful pictures on their first post. Don't get discouraged.

Many times a smaller and clearer image would be better.

If you find a site that gives you strong opinions based on blurry pictures then your not doing yourself any justice-this is definitely the best site to learn from in my opinion. Somebody giving you opinions just to give them even if they cant see the coin in question is not doing you or the hobby itself any favors-keep at it you will improve ive seen you post better pictures before try different tactics, lighting, angles and coops advice, good luck!

Hi Mdnyte, hang in there:) I am like you not much to work with as far as equipment goes and I certainly don't have the money for it, but really love the hobby. I have only been doing this for 9 months and it is fun and frustrating at the same time. I was able to swing a cheaper USB computer microscope for 26.00 on ebay. It is much better than my hand held camera, but even with the microscope camera I have limitations I can't get a good close-up because it gets too blurry and the glare is horrible (especially on the new LC's). I felt the same way a lot of times.

I will share this, I had joined another coin forum before this one. Not good experience at all. The people were down right rude and swore and even made fun of my lack of knowledge. I am of a timid nature and I guess have a lot patience from raising 2 very active boys - so someone pretty much yelling at me in various ways put me to tears a couple of times.

CCF has been great for me even with my bad picture taking skills (they are constantly teaching me how to do it better and more importantly teaching me all kinds of stuff about coins). I mean really - I had no idea how much went into making just that one little coin. Just fascinating to me. I just keep trying to get better because like you - I love the hobby and the people here on the forum. They have been very patient and supportive. I have come to the realization that I am a very slow learner in this hobby, but I have learned a lot from the folks here.

Hope you decide to stick around - Sandy
