I haven't seen a CCF Press post for this product release, and it's probably because there are very few collectors of the series besides me. However, like Kennedy, Reagan was a very popular president and there may be some folks who want to pick up this individual set. Anyway...

Yesterday, August 18th 2016, the Reagan FDCC set went on sale. This set is the 39th and final installment of the Presidential $1 First Day Coin Covers. Reagan was POTUS #40 but Jimmy Carter is still alive at the time of this writing so does not have a $1 coin.

The product (16FC) is priced at $19.95 and includes two business strike $1 Reagan coins, one each from the P and D mints. The coins are mounted in capsules inside an envelope bearing a portrait of Reagan, some information about his presidency and the coin itself, and a "Forever" U.S. flag stamp, cancelled/postmarked at Simi Valley, CA. Simi Valley is the location of Reagan's grave and his presidential library. In this reporter's opinion, the likeness of Reagan in the portrait on the envelope is much better than the one on the coin.

I have mixed feelings about the end of this series. The $20 price tag is tough to swallow given what you get, but they are educational and pretty nice to look at, especially in a complete set. If you are interested in putting this together, they are frequently available from ebay and other sellers for much less than retail. I have filled in some gaps for $5 or so each of the older issues.

I do not dislike the FDC product, I just feel they are a tad bit overpriced. Not that the price is wrong, but it does not fit my budget. I could see myself going back for these at a later time, as I have found your set to be very impressive.

Definitely agree. I don't know what goes into production but $10-$12 seems more appropriate to me.

Let's see... so there's:
o The $2 in coins
o The $0.47 for the Forever stamp
o The shipping to and from California for the 25k envelopes
o The cost to cancel each of the 25k envelopes
o The material cost of the envelopes (including product design, manufacturing, and printing)
o The material cost of the 2 $1 capsules per envelope
o The material cost of the stiff cardboard outer packaging
o The labor cost of inserting each coin into a capsule, inserting those capsules into an FDCC envelope, and stuffing those envelopes inside the stiff cardboard packaging.
o U.S. Mint overhead (power bills, salaries, marketing, etc.)
o Third party fulfillment overhead
o I'm sure I've not covered everything.

Maybe $20 isn't unreasonable but it still seems too much for what you get.

For me it's one of those "I started the series and have to see it through" kind of things.

I thought these were kinda cool when they first came out and have a sub for 3 of each since then. I almost quit a year or so ago but decided to just complete the series even with the realization that they will probably will be a loss overall.

99% of the sets are still sealed....only opened a few of the earlier ones when my order was for 5..

Thanks for starting the thread...

I put together a set of the Statehood Quarter PNCs, but decided not to assemble a set of the Presidential dollars - other priorities in the collection at the time.

The Mint does a nice job on these and they do make an attractive and informative collection. Congrats to those who have assembled the complete set!

As did I. In fact, seeking advice regarding the Statehood FDCCs/PNCs is what caused me to discover CCF over 5 years ago.

I do not believe there are any more PNCs on the product schedule. Part of me wishes they had done this treatment for the ATB Quarters but part of me (my checkbook) is glad they did not.

Was cruising the 'bay for other things and came across this auction for a complete 56-piece set of the Statehood & Territory PNCs:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/50-State-Qu...91974646942?

Averages out to $4 per set; not bad if you want to get these all in one fell swoop at a great price-per-set.
