Hi,I picked this up as a filler piece for $5 bucks,I got looking at the originals and now I'm like everybody here at one time or another has done thinking it has a shot at being the real deal, what do you guys think ? Lots of patina on it,I just don't know,it's not here it's in the mail,I need it as a filler anyway but now I thinking it's got a chance, really close to some pictures of the real ones, help please.

It is a replica. I am guessing the chances of this coin being genuine are about the same as getting a genuine 1793 chain cent in change at the supermarket today.

The price alone should tell you it has to be a replica. The only way to get a real one for that would be an estate sale by a family that made no effort whatsoever to see what the coin was worth, and even that is unlikely since non-numismatists usually think any old coin is worth a fortune. Even a PO-1 coin is worth a couple thousand dollars

Not a bad price for a replica Chain Cent ... hole filler. Quote: The price alone should tell you it has to be a replica. This doesn't always hold true ... A few years ago, I bought a 1793 Wreath Cent in a jewelry store. After looking at a Gray Sheet, the seller charged me $30. I thought it to be genuine, but it had ED, with evenly distributed micro-porosity. I later confirmed it was an S-11a. It looked better in-hand ... Here are pics:

The seller sells replica coins, that's what he does. He has other replicas for sale because that's what he does, he sells replicas.

It's a replica of a Sheldon 2. Te hair ends aren't right and the chain links are too heavy, and the openings when the links come together aren't right. In some places it looks like there is pretty much no opening in them in places that should have large clear openings. There is no way this is anything but a replica.
