Not a top tier slab, but this is an instance of buying the coin, not the slab. I suspect this coin would have brought twice what it did at the hammer, if it had a PCGS or NGC label on it.

How do you think the TPG graded this 1891-O Morgan dollar?
What would your grade be? Feel free to take a guess at the TPG, and the VAM if you'd like -- it's fairly distinctive.

1891-O tended to be very poorly struck. So given this I would say MS62.

Vam-10?

Typical strike for that era of O-mint.

Typical weak strike but also signs of handling so I think it's a slider. I'll say market grade of 62 but technically it's probably AU-58.

VAM 10 is correct, this is a clashed, late die stage with additional cracking and "crumbly" rims.

It kind of looks like it has a rim Cud on obverse in same spot as VAM 10 as well as die crack on reverse.

My 1891-O VAM 4 has them in different location.

AU-58, but I wouldn't be surprised to see it in a MS-63 holder.

Not an AU coin for sure. Later generation PCI holder, "MS 63" -- I think 62/63 is on the money, which is fine, since it sold for 1/2 of a 63 bid. My plan is to crack it & send it to PCGS.
