My birthday is on Monday the 22nd so I decided to pick up a few "presents" for myself. This one I got a good deal on. Toning presents MUCH darker in hand and there is still plenty of luster left on coin. This is a VAM 4 complete with rim Cuds on obverse. I know not the greatest pictures for grading. Might have to take pics of this coin outside in full sun. What do you think it makes? I'm thinking AU. Also does toning look NT or AT? Thanks...Mont Edited by MontCollector 08/18/2016 4:32 pm

Might be best to try a couple more photos trying to depict the actual color of the coin if possible.

Certainly doesn't look right in these pics.

I agree. These are hard to read and appear somewhat unattractive from those photos.

Took new pictures outside in full sunlight. Best I can do for now still not showing luster behind the toning very well.

I would say MS-63 or 64. Very nice purple toning

A notoriously poorly struck "O" mint Morgan. Yours is par for the course, strike-wise. Don't know whether the color is natural are artificial. Best bet is to send it in for a quick TPG opinion at ANACS. If you get good results you can always send it in for an attempt at a cross-over at PCGS or NGC. I bought a roll of those a long time ago trying to find a decent strike .... I'm still looking!

I will say AU-58 with questionable color, possibly dipped and retoned

Significant wear and artificially toned. AU details, lower end AU. But -- the VAM is collectible in and of itself, and the Cuds are a good thing. :)

I was thinking AU-55, but the toning does not look natural to me.

AU-55, details. Collectible due to the VAM.
