I'm asking about a good reference for Liberty Cap cents either a book or online. Any thoughts?

William C. Noyes has several books out on them. Not cheap, but they are your best reference books by far on the Liberty Cap series, Charles Davis NUmismatic Booksales is the authorized seller of them. Here is the link listing all the Noyes books available currently from him. https://www.vcoins.com/en/stores/ch...ditems=False

As to less expensive references, there are quite a few out there, the latest is probably Q. David Bowers Whitman RedBook Series on Half Cents and Large Cents. My favorite one is on the Sheldon 15 only "The Aristocrat" which I did a through review on in 2014. https://goccf.com/t/166811#166811Of course there are many out of print books out there, Sheldon's Penny Whimsy, Crosby's reference book, the EAC Grading guide is also a good general reference on early copper coins any enthusiast should have. Dennis Lorring wrote a book as well on them. Then go to auction catalogs for good information, Heritage Auctions (my favorite catalog ever produced for any coin series) was the Walter J. Husak collection 2008 and the four part Goldberg Dan Holmes set of catalogs, both provide almost complete sets with lots of great reference material.

Al is a nice guy, I got to eat dinner with him at the EAC convention 2 years ago. Al Boka maintains a nice website http://www.1794largecents.com/His book is another good one I reviewed earlier here on CCF; https://goccf.com/t/171054#171054

Thanks for the links, especially the link to Al Boka's website and your review of his book.. I did order a copy of penny wise. The noyes books were a little pricey. Maybe in the future I pick one of those up.

Glad I helped a bit, yes the Noyes books are really expensive, more worth it as you become into the EAC as an advanced colector or researcher, if you are an ANA member his books are availible for free checkout from the library. I'd also suggest joining the EAC, part of your membership gets you PennyWise their award winning publication, worth every "penny" of the cost! www.eacs.org

And not just a subscription, I should have been clearer on that, you get every past issue from day one on a DVD. Also just announced that PennyWise will be put up on the Newman Numismatic Portal site for free, all issues except the past 2 years. Those will be held for current EAC members only.
