Note the Machine damage removed part of the plating exposing the zinc.

RPMs are not possible after 1989 as the mint marks are now part of the design of the die.

If the mint mark was showing hub doubling, the date would show hub doubling as well. This is not the case on your coin.

If this could not be a RPM or doubled die, as the MD reduced the size of the mint mark. If it were either the mint mark would be enlarged/raised on the die, not reduced by the strike.

John, Coop, I agree with you both 100%, but, if there could be a transitional error, this is the sort of coin where it might be found.

That said, does anyone else find the post-89 mint marks less interesting than their forefathers? All the same, all the time...

The only if was when they forgot to add the mint marks to the dies:
1990-D-LMC-Double-Mint-Mark
How that happened is beyond me. The die didn't have it on the design for that proof die.
