Found these 2 coins metal detecting by the burned out stump of the "shade tree" in an old farm field this morning. Couldn't be happier.

Not pristine ... but free.

The 1917 LSQ looks pretty good. It looks like it might have some details on the back, but it is still in really good condition. Have you dipped it? That would get rid of the grime and it would look really good.

I just used a little ammonia and water on the quarter. It has a bluish hue from the heat of the stump fire.

Very nice detector find . Is that scratch on the reverse of the quarter a mishap of your digging tool ?

The scratches across the reverse were already there. I gave this one pretty wide berth and avoided hitting it.

Nice! Congratulations. I've only ever found I SLQ while detecting but it wasn't in nearly as nice of shape as your coin.

Too bad that SLQ is scratched. Looks really nice, probably VF details.

"In hand" the scratches are far less obvious. You should see the nick I put in the rim of an otherwise nice 1907 Barber quarter a couple weeks ago. Still kickin' myself for that one.
