Has anyone else experienced rattling with 2016 Silver Eagles in Air-Tite H40 Direct Fit Capsules?

Oh, meant to put this in "Main Coin Forum". Could a MOD please move this?

Staff comment - having this in the Precious Metals section is correct

No, haven't had that problem. Are we talking about us mint issued ASEs and not private bullion rounds? Most Ag rounds are 39mm and would rattle in a 40mm.

It's a 2016 U.S. Mint ASE. I tried the coin in a few of them, and it's the same result. I also have this issue with an A 18 and a Mercury dime. Besides that, all my other coins fit perfectly.

Hmmm... I have a couple of Roosevelt '96-W that rattle in dime A-18; same for Barber dime. I don't know what to say. Might just be a variation in tolerances of coin or holder.

I guess you could try getting a mod to move this to commem&NCLT forum so it gets more eyes on it. Use the link for Send note to Staff at the bottom of your post and phrase it as a request (which it would be).

Maybe you did not buy the official Air-Tite H40 Direct Fit Capsules. You brought Brand X. On a serious note, you might have gotten a bad batch of capsules. It can happen.

I bought a small batch of off brand ones and had to throw them out. I have a near complete set of ASE's in a CAPS album and they all fit perfectly in the original air-tites but I haven't ordered the 2016 one yet so I can't speak for that one.

You might be on to something concerning authenticity. I buy my air-tites from ebay from various vendors. The ones that rattle I bought from an "onfireguy". They are smooth and look the part. After I had the rattle issue, I bought more off ebay from another vendor. The new ones do not rattle, but each capsule has flash that needs to be trimmed. I may just have to buy directly from airtite and compare.

I get all mine from Valley Coin or airtites website directly. That way I'm sure they are original

I use the black ringed airtites. Somehow I feel the direct fit might rub on the edges too much.
