I see a 64 maybe 65 if the marks on the cheek aren't too deep

To the CCF!!

I'm at MS65

Gorgeous looking Morgan

As for VAM. Every Morgan is a VAM. The 1879S happens to be one of those that is easier to VAM in hand.

She's a frosty gal, and around MS64+ seems right.

There are many, many different varieties for 1879-S (in the hundreds.)

A good place to start would be to note that your coin has what is called the reverse of 1879 (the top arrow feather is slanted instead of parallel to the one below it.) Going further will require a good investment of your time, a bit of research, and preferably a 10x loupe: see the VAMworld site (google it) for 1879-S varieties to get started.

to CCF, by the way. Heck of a coin to get introduced with.

Tough call. Super clean except for the two tracks right smack in the middle of the cheek. I'll say 64.

Thank you all for your insights.
WOW that VAMWORLD site is intense. I can see it would be an ambitious exercise to classify a collection of silver dollars.
Thanks Again

I'm at MS65 as well. 79-S can be a bear to attribute without a smoking gun die marker which your coin does not appear to have. At this point it's all about minor date doubling and mint mark position. Don't get frustrated if you are not able to figure out the VAM, I have many Morgans in my collection that are VAM-tbd.
