I've seen this penny before. It is a regular penny that got Kennedy's picture stamped on it after leaving the mint. It came with a card that showed the similarities of their assassinations. I have not seen one of these in years. I don't know its "worth" or present day "value". Here is how they were packaged. I found one on Etsy. https://www.etsy.com/listing/462522...M2gQod1SABBw

@MattChew70 ... Welcome to the CCF ... You have a counterstamped cent that was marketed as a novelty item. The stamped image is that of John F. Kennedy. The residue on the reverse indicates that it was once glued to a card. The cards to which these counterstamped cents were attached recorded a number of parallels between the two martyred presidents, Abe & John. Here's one that's presently on ebay - http://www.ebay.com/itm/Lincoln-Ken...AMXQ9otTkLxr

I doubt it because it is a novelty item. Now, if it had been produced by The US Mint and produced in different cirulations, making one year harder to find, then it would make a difference. For this coin, year does not matter in the slightest bit.

Counterstamps are PMD (post mint damage). You might find a collector willing to pay you a couple bucks for it. Personally I love counterstamped coins, and yours is a nice example. You might want to clean the gunk off the back with an acetone dip. For more counterstamp examples, check out the fun counterstamp thread.

Nice find! As mentioned above, feel free to add it to the counterstamp thread and take a look at what others have found.

Soak this in some acetone to possibly get rid of the glue residue on the reverse side.
Acetone is available in the cosmetics dept. at Wal mart for very little. it is sold in a bottle labeled as pure acetone and is used as fingernail polish remover.

Cool find. I have one too somewhere. I personally think it is neat to find them as well as other novelty counterstruck pennies in circulation and I usually keep the ones I find. You'll never get rich off of them but they are fun to collect.

I have a Kennedy counterstamp too....and maybe 8 or 9 counterstamps with different states on them. When you find your first counterstamp, it certainly raises an eyebrow, but once you learn about them, they're pretty common really & worth still just a cent. Actually I consider them PMD. (but I still keep em')...
