I do think they have educational value, and not just for children. How many Americans know the names of all of our Presidents? Just in the time I've been collecting the Presidential dollar coins I've been much better at remembering which president served which term. So even though these coins are modern, they have an important educational and historical element to them.

Also, I personally like to collect simply different coin designs, and I don't worry much about year and mint mark, so these coins are great for me, because there are four different designs every year. I think it's a great coin collection, regardless of the monetary value, and perhaps its even better that it probably won't be worth much, so that it remains cheap for us collectors.

What the Franklin Mint and others are doing is unfortunate and wrong, though.

I'm glad I found this forum, I feel dumb of coins I have purchased in the past. I buy most of my Presidential coins from the usmint website. However, I can't complete my set until I get the satin Presidential dollars. HSN does offer these, however, can someone educate me on these dollars? What are they? And where should I purchase them? Thanks.

I wouldnt purchase at hsn. As far as the satin goes maybe they are in the mint uncirculated sets in a satin finish I'm not sure. But I dont think it would be worth the money you spend to complete it if you have to buy on a coin shopping network

Hello silversaver,

the satin finish started in 2005 as a new finish for Mint Sets and that is the only way to get them. Prior to 2005, the Mint Sets just contained regular business strikes. The 2007 set is still available from the Mint's website for $22.95 and the 2008 set has not been released yet.

Anybody gonna bust open these uncirc. and/or proof sets and put them into a Presidential album ?
Was anybody NOT going to do that before......but after learning of and being convinced of their "future low value".....changed their mind and now decided to "crack em"?

In the days the Morgan were made we had the same problems the masses did not want a large coin nether but now Morgans are collected as the king of great coins!

But back to 2000 Sac came out they failed now 2007&2008 pres dollar a failure.
maybe in 2073 the Sac&Pres will be the next GSA hoard?

I want to, but I cannot decide what album I want. Since the mint mark is not visible in an album, I might just collect by date. But what do do with the proofs? If I collect proof only, do I spend the uncirculated ones. Note sure... so for now they sit in a tube!

Thanks for the great welcome. Sorry to be thick but I don't see the Presidential Satin finish coin on usmint website. I thought I read you have to be a collector or dealer to get these?

They are a part of the regular issue mint set, and all of the mint sets since 2005 are satin finish.

I highly doubt they will ever have any considerate value, unless the value of the metals they are composed of raises drasticly!

i hate the edge lettering, I hear there putting edge lettering on the sac dollars starting in 09 as well, what a disaster they should bring back half eagles and make them out of silver or something so that our money has actual real value instead of this base metal junk that circulates today, a dollars not a dollar to me unless its silver

What is the reasoning behind using edge lettering? It's awful.
