I really do spend a lot of time trying to organize my collection. Many ideas I get from seeing what other CCF members are doing. Why I am thinking about this right now, my wife is going out of town. While she is gone I plan on doing a lot of organizing .... Top of the list, separate the higher value coins and move them to the bank boxes. There always seem to be some coins I have trouble figuring out what to do with. Most times just not having a box to put them into. Like these I had been taking the coins out of the OGP to save safe space. OGP Coins

I am always on the look out for boxes that might fit odd coins, and also fit into the safe. Misc. box - Presidential reverse proof set, capital coin holder ...etc GSA box - still have room for 6 more GSA's

Quote: If your coins were mainly lower grade, I would suggest buying a large wooden chest and dumping them all in like a pirate would do. Good idea .... I have been talking with my brother about building a nice steel treasure chest .. he is a good welder. This is what I have so far

Just the thought off taking ALL those coins out to put on the table for pictures has given the a headache. Very nice collection.

I have my Japanese coins very well organized in a tidy type set! Oh wait, you mean *all* of my coins? I have shoeboxes full of baggies. That counts as organized, right? And the piles that have consumed my desk?

Have you considered downsizing and reinvesting it into a fewer higher grade coins?

I live in a small appartment, so organisation is a big deal for me. A few rules I tend to follow: - I never buy lots - always think about storing before buying - from time to time I take some random coin to my LCS for a chip off the price of some coin(s) I'm buying - every collection demands time invested in it (I work at a museum, and some of my coworkers there think that when an object is designated in a collection, the story ends ... Truth is, of course, far from this)

Seems like you have a good rule set, Dagaz.

In a word....no.
I am not unique from most on this site. My primary focus is an UNC Lincoln set. I am SOOOOOOOO close to completing. You might be surprised at which dates/mm are actually the hardest to find in UNC with a good strike.
So, being the coin collector that I am, I have begun branching out. Of course, seeing the occasional UNC Lincoln (which I know is a hard date/mm to find), finds its way home as well.
So...no. Kind of, but no. :)

My collection is SOoooo tiny compared to yours but yes! I am trying to organize it and get rid of duplicates. I have probably $200 fv in sets and partial sets of Lincolns, Jeffersons, clad Roosevelts, State Quarters, ATBs, Kennedy halves and other assorted change in a large tupperware bowl I plan on taking to coin star this weekend. My little collection is turning into a hoard and I don't have room to store all the coins I have been holding onto that are only going to be worth face value for a VERY long time...or forever I have emptied out 6 Danscos this week. I am switching to CAPS albums for my modern coins and cutting the cord on all my duplicates. I just came to the conclusion that one set is enough for me, but I don't work in a coin shop and have all those temptations like you do! Good Luck and keep us posted!

My buddy says, "A cluttered desk is the sign of a cluttered mind."
But his desk is empty.

My collection is always in a state of organised chaos, I have stuff scattered everywhere and yet Most of the time I can find even the half forgotten about or obscure coins with a bit of searching. When I start on some new coin project I tend to pretty much ignore everything else and concentrate solely on that project, as a result the coins that I have bought weeks previously that finally get delivered just get tossed in a box or a drawer and there are some that I haven't even unpacked yet. It is always enjoyable to go through all the unsorted stuff later on and try to put them in the appropriate albums and to rediscover why I bought them in the first place For Me collecting is all about Fun and enjoying the hunt and the learning curve that goes with it. Keeping everything neat and tidy is nice but I find actually doing the tidying up to be boring and annoying and nowhere near as much Fun as searching for new acquisitions
