5 silver maple leafs for $121.00, free shipping yes but I figure its factored into the price but still seems like a high premium considering it's under $20/oz.

Gov't issued bullion always carries a bit of a premium. Might be better off looking for a deal on a 5oz silver bar or going with generic rounds.

Actually I was looking at some generic silver rounds from JM Bullion...they have an eagle and are reverse proof. Quite attractive really. If paid by check it would be $107.60 for 5 rounds or pay $5 more if using a credit card.

UPDATE: I ended up buying the JM rounds. Paying by check.

That is too high. You should be paying around $110 with free shipping. Don't get jipped.

What I am finding is that a lot of these places offer free shipping but usually there is a $100 minimum order. That kinda hurts small time collectors like myself.

True, but free shipping with a min. $100 order is a great deal. Some are as high as $3,000 min on free shipping. They already operate on a slim profit margin, they deal in volume.

Just my 2c

What is nice about the rounds I ordered is that they aren't tied to numismatics...just straight up bullion. These will be my first ever generic silver rounds.

I do like government issued silver because they are backed by their respective governments, however the premiums are usually higher. Further since they are coins the various years will be a different value based on numismatics rather than it's bullion value. That fact alone makes it tougher to collect a series at a low cost.

"I do like government issued silver because they are backed by their respective governments"

Exactly what benefit does one derive from something "backed by" a government? I hear this a lot in people explaining why they pay more. But what exactly does the government do to "back" something? Is it just -- oh we say it is .999 silver so you better believe it!

Those rounds actually look quite nice.

I'm wondering if people mistake 'issued by a government' for 'backed by a government'. Just the fact that a government asks a mint to issue a certain series of coins in a specific type of metal doesn't automatically mean that you'll also get a lifetime warranty by that government, neither does it mean that you get better or worse quality precious metal than on privately issued rounds. Keep in mind that a lot of mints worldwide are now privately operated and are just executing orders for governments and other parties.

They just received my check yesterday. Hopefully they will ship soon. But in the future I think I'll just pay by credit card or PayPal...much faster turnaround that way.

What's the rush?
I always like to save a few bucks on PM purchases, the price is locked, there going nowhere but here.
Not planning on flipping 'em, so I can wait weeks.
But that's just me.
May the force be with you.
