I posted this pic earlier along with my dismay that I have purchased yet another 1946 whizzed 10-cent piece. The seller is adamant that the coin is not whizzed and states his credentials as being "I have been dealing in NFLD coins for 30 years and am the largest dealer in Canada on Newfoundland coins." He has refunded my purchase and told me to keep the coin. I would like to send this coin to a qualified member here for a learned opinion upon seeing the coin in the flesh. I will pay postage both ways. I presume there is a way for members to contact each other with addresses etc. Let me know if interested, please. If I owe the seller a refund of his refund (and an apology) I am quite willing to do so. Jeff

From the photo, the coin is perfectly collectable. I'd pay for it, apologize, and buy a good loupe.

From those pictures I don't see evidence of whizzing...
May I ask what makes you think the coin has been whizzed?

I had meant this to be a continuation of an earlier post in a different thread. I was apparently in an Aussie thread and didn't notice when I made this post. The image is the sellers taken from the ebay listing. Yes, it shows no evidence of whizzing or harsh cleaning. The actual coin under ordinary 10x power with oblique light looks like a blizzard seen in high beams. I only have my iPhone for photography and getting the hairlines to stand out in focus is not possible with my talent. I have reviewed numerous threads on whizzed coins here and am aware of the difficulties in making decisions from photos. That's why I was looking for a knowledgeable and impartial third party to take a look at the actual coin. The nearest LCD is just under 60 miles away. My posting certainly could have been clearer. With that, I'll simply say "forget it," and be on my way.

I believe in a world of honest sellers and honest buyers. The right way to do this would have been to notify him of the problem or problems you had, but told him not to refund until you got a second opinion. It's really saddening that someone is out of a coin and their money based only on your opinion. You are not even sure of your opinion, which is why you are here.

Looks fine to me as well. Sterling silver is fairly soft, so there will be a number of marks/lines on circulated pieces simply due to circulation. When blasted with bright light and a 10x glass, you'll definitely see marks on it. Whether it is bad enough to be called "cleaned" or not is debatable and hard to say based on that photo.
Pay the man back for the coin you purchased.

what you can do is take a short video of the coin with your iphone. Just have the coin turn in the light for us to see the hairlines that you are mentioning. Then you can upload it to dropbox or youtube or something and give us a link.

Definitely not whizzed.
You say the coin at 10X 'lloks like a blizzard seen in high beams'.
This would indicate to me as many circulation marks, possibly caused by being kept in a 'coin bag' with other coins for numerous years.

Whizzing properly done does not leave hairlines on a coin. Whizzing is done to raise the apparent grade of a coin, not to clean it. Whizzing alters the surface in such a way that it raises lost detail at the edges of devices and that the pattern etched in the surface will appear as luster. This coin is too well worn to have benefited from any whizzing. If the coin has hairlines it's not from whizzing.

This is what a "whizzed" coin looks like.

Yep that one is whizzed but not very well done. Someone tried to make a thousand dollar coin from a four hundred. The attempt at deception is too obvious. Nice die crack on that coin though!

First, you are showing us only one side of the coin, and a 'scan' to boot. With this scan it doesn't look whizzed but a photo would have been better.
