I saw this 1932-D Washington quarter on ebay. I am not accusing the seller of selling a fake, but the reverse looks a bit porous to me. It could be from a bit of wear, but I don't know. Do people think this coin is real or not? Thanks for helping me learn these things. Paul Bulgerin

I noticed the porosity immediately. Unfortunately I'm not the one to say yea or nay. You may have to submit it to a TPG to make it official.

I don't like anything about it.
Even if it were real it looks terrible and has been harshly cleaned.
Time don't fly, it bounds and leaps.

The coin is not mine. I just came across the auction.

The scratches on the obverse make me think it's been cleaned. So I wonder if the reverse was more harshly cleaned or if it had PVC damage.
The quarter looks genuine to me but I lack experience in spotting fakes.

Sure looks like a cast coin with very weak details & porous surface. Who is the seller - that may also help shed some light on the matter (assuming you are not bidding on the coin).

IGWT doesn't look right (didn't these have weak mottos that got hanged and strengthened in 1934?), nor do the obv rims.

It does not look good to me. I would stand clear. The date ,MM ,and breast feathers look off .

The tail feathers are just about missing, the wreath leaves are pitted, and so on.
Just walk away.

They are a reputable seller, and seem to get their hands on a lot of raw key and semi-key dates. I agree though on this one, why take the risk for a problem coin.

This is a good seller, and I have bought from them. I would not buy this one though. It has been very harshly cleaned rather recently. It is cheap for having the detail it does, priced in the fine range. The 2 in the date looks a little too round for my eye, but that could be damage due to corrosion. I am looking for one of these and I would drop it like it a hot iron. Even if it is righteous it is a bad coin.

I won't venture a guess as to whether the coin is genuine or not, but the fact that the seller describes it as having "UNC Details" pretty much screams to me that he knows this is a "problem" coin in one way or another. This is definitely a coin (the 1932D quarter in general, that is, not this particular example) I would not buy ungraded.
