The thing to remember about older Proofs is there are virtually very few available. And the prices are also not to nice. And again, just where do you find them? I have all the Mercury dime Proofs. Only 7 years they were made and the Mintage quantities are only in the thousands. There cost, quantity available, quantity minted makes them a bit harder to find than imaginable. Same with almost all older proof coins. If your going to try to collect them, be prepared to do a lot of searching and spending a lot of money.

Quote:Barryg that proof Trade dollar is just dragging down your collection. I'll pm you my address so you can send it to me and make your collection look nice again. Seriously? And here I thought the Morgan dollar was the bottom of the barrel...

Probably in the $300-400 range, especially for that year.

This one [similar to Moe's] cost me around $600: He probably got his cheaper. And, as always, keep in mind that higher grade examples are going to cost more (in some cases MUCH more) than lower grade ones.

Granted you probably won't see classic proofs lining the cases of your LCS, but Heritage has two small internet auctions each week and there are usually 25+ of various denominations for auction. There is also a large auction on the 31st and there are over 400 different proofs up for auction. There are a couple I have my eye on in that auction.

I've actually had good luck on ebay, especially with reputable sellers and the "Buy It now" feature. Maybe not the best deals, but you know what you're getting (and they usually have very high quality pictures). David Lawrence Coins is one example of such a seller.
