Back in the 1970s as a kid I collected US coins and put them in cardboard flips. 40+ years later I notice that the plastic in these flips has broken down in places allowing air to hit parts of the coins. See image below
What should I do? Pull them out and let them tarnish evenly? Will that happen? I assume coin cleaning is still a big no-no, but the uneven tarnish really hurts their appeal.

Looks like poor storage of those 2x2's is the problem . Take the coins out and put them in new 2x2's , don't do anything about the toning .Make sure you store them in a environmentally safe location . Oh , and flatten those staples .
