Most likely a Magicians coin that someone made. It's the obverse of a Kennedy half dollar on one side and the obverse of a British penny on the other and has probably been hollowed out the reason for sounding different and being lighter. If you'll look closely under magnification on one side or the other you'll probably be able to see where the coin has been cut and one side replaced. My guess would be on the penny side.

The novelty value is worth more than 49 cents, and more than the value of the silver remaining. I would not hesitate to get it for my exonumia collection if the opportunity arose.

"Value" is what you and a willing buyer come to terms with when neither of you are under pressure to sell or buy.

You paid 50 cents for it. Work your way up from 50 cents and sell it for what you are comfortable with. Trust me, whatever you sell it for will be more than what you paid for it.

Remember, you can't go broke when selling at a profit! (Unless you do some really stupid stuff!)

Try an ebay search for magicians' coins, or double-headed coins. The remaining silver is surely worth $3-4.

No silver in a 70's era clad half or British penny. If you're going to sell it on ebay, I'd guess it would bring around $10., of course then you have to pay fees out of that.

Pry it apart, or if that doesn't work, wrap it in a towel or sock and bang it on a hard surface. The other side of the penny is the reverse of the Kennedy. Over the years I've found close to 30 of them. Mexican coins are also used.
