I live in the Low Country of South Carolina. People are evacuating here due to Hurrican Matthew. My motels are here, so I'm staying. I told my fiance to take whatever she needs and head to my family's estate in North Carolina. Of course, I told her to take whatever coins and valuables I have in South Carolina with her as well. Anybody else on here evacuating from South Carolina? If you are, good luck to you and take care. *** Edited by Staff - Added Storm Track Image ***

Joey, if you don't mind my asking, what exactly do you hope to be able to DO to protect your hotels in the midst of a hurricane? I don't live in hurricane country, so I don't know much about it.

I'm currently on board the flight from Oslo to Miami and we're currently all crossing our fingers that the hurricane will not go on land in Miami but will stay on track to Bahamas (and hopefully slow down as soon as possible, for everyone's sake). The captain took a huge extra load of fuel on board, in such extent that we even had to offload some cargo. It may be needed, in case we have to divert to far, far away... So count me in on the team of people keeping their fingers crossed that all will be ok...

I don't live in hurricane country, so I don't know much about it. I don't do anything. You can't truly protect motels/hotels from mother nature. I am staying here to protect my properties from looters and to keep an overall eye on my properties. That's all I can do.

Quote: Saint Augustine area of Florida here. My mom grew up (and her family still lives there) in Crescent City (south of Palatka)... I asked my uncle what he did during Hurricanes and he said just sit on the porch and watch it blow over...

I am in Upstate SC. We sent all of the school buses down state to help with the evacuation. Does it make me a bad person that I appreciated their absence on the morning commute? Kidding aside, never take these things lightly. If you are told to leave, then please leave!

Love and prayers to all of you in the storm's path. UltraRant - if you're able to land in Miami, buy water and charge your devices first thing. Is the airport the safest place to shelter? It seems very frightening from here, the Midwest.

We're about to land and are descending right now. It seems that South Florida will be saved from the hurricane. Which is good. We should land according to schedule. There's just some 'side effect' in the area, like heavy rain showers.
For those further up north: I do hope the storm will calm down a bit before hitting land again. Keeping my fingers crossed for you!
