This guy has seen better days, but check the die gouge that looks like a hair out of place.

Also, I'm gonna go out on a limb and say you guys will tell me this happens, but is it weird that THREE of the A's on the reverse show NO sign that they ever had the "hole" in the top part? (Go ahead, say it--"." This'll be the only time you can say it and not mean something else! )

Looks like the mark is incuse. So it is probably coin damage from circulation. If it were a die gouge, that area would be raised and not lowered.

I'm pretty sure it is raised (cast a shadow, even). Will take another look at it tomorrow.

Note the light is coming from the bottom of the image and it lights up the back edge of the area in question. If it were raised, the light would show on the bottom of the area in question.
