Well, for fun this October, I picked through an entire sealed 1967 1c mint bag ($60 face value). A peek inside! And I found myself a really cool keeper. There were about a dozen curved clipped coins in the bag, a couple struck on ragged clipped planchets and a few decent grades. No doubled die obverse coins though (which is what I was hoping for). looks and sounds like you really had fun..excellent find! gotta love these centennial coins, especially with errors! I think Robmck1967 is really gonna like this one. i went through a $12ish face value lot of circulated 1967 cents, I found a few with the DDO in EF-AU.
Feel free to call me Will.

Since you've seen so many of them, maybe you can answer an age old question: what kind of bird is that supposd to be? Dove? Gull? The rest of the series is pretty clear, but not that one. I'm seriously curious.

Ah, yes...rock dove. No....really? Rock Dove? Why? Is that the same critter that Americans call a pigeon?

Curious to knowhow you did on the high grades.... If these were left in a bag for 50 years I am guessing the coins were mostly "baggy"?
Most of these now on to the ARP?

Quote: Most of these now on to the ARP? Nope - selling the remainder (at face value) to a local coin shop, for a Canada 150 display they are planning next year. Kids will be able to reach into the bag for their own free centennial penny.... Note that this one was my second bag of 1967 1-cent coins. I also went through a 1967 5-cent bag last year. Both of those bags are now at Metro Coin and Banknote in Toronto - for kids who go into Jared's shop.

Nice way for young collectors to get into the hobby with a one off penny design.

Quote: Nice way for young collectors to get into the hobby with a one off penny design. I remember getting one in my change as a child (I was maybe 10-12 years old). I had the biggest smile on my face even though it was in rough shape. Can't imagine the joy a nice BU will bring to young collectors :)

According to the coins designer: Quote: "For this I wished to use a very common bird, but one with symbolic overtones. I selected the dove (rock dove) -very common, in cities as well as in the country, as the pigeon, and having associations with spiritual values and also with peace." - Alex Colville. http://coinscan.com/des/1967d.htmlI agree with GR58, that peek inside the bag was great.

I'm waiting on delivery of a couple sets of this series. The dollar's my favorite. At least I now know what all of the critters are. Thanks, McNickel!.
