Looks like a normal 1888 cent in nice VF condition.

thank you for the replies.. this was in a collection I inherited recently.. the collection went to a local dealer who suggested it may be.. however I know his knowledge on american coins is very limited.. he said something about the " Cud at the E" and the "position of the date".. thanks again for your replies

Color me pink but I think I see the back of the seven at the right of the 8... Unless I'm just being hopeful for this gentleman!

Not the overdate, no evidence of the 7 under the last 8.

Welcome to the CCF. IMHO,not an overdate. Given that this coin is a higher grade, I'd think that certification should be considered.

Definitely not the overdate S-1 - the numerals are in the wrong position relative to the denticles.
