Hello all,
I bought a small lot of world coins from a local dealer the other day, He pulled out most of the Silver and I bought the rest. just finished up going through them and found a couple I'm not sure about.

The first one is supposed to be a 1873 Bolivia 50 Centavos Coin, It's also supposed to be .900 Silver and Weigh 12.5g. This one is Copper and Weighs 10.3g. I'm assuming it's a fake but wanted to get other opinions on it. Here's a Pic..

Here's the next one. Not sure if this is a coin or token but most of the collection was from South America. The reverse is blank, and it appears to be Brass. I couldn't find it online or in any of my books. anyone have any ideas?

About the first coin, yes it is a cast copy but in my opinion due to the average circulated condition and the metal base it must be a contemporary counterfeit. Probably silver plated when it circulated.

Yes it's Rulau VEN 105 also Eklund 1219, value $15 TO $25.
I collect contemporary counterfeits, I wish that Bolivia was something I found.

Yup, definitely a contemporary counterfeit. Fairly common with Bolivian coinage at least until the 1850's (most often the 4 Soles denomination, of which this 50 cent. piece would be the successor)... I don't really go past the Soles coinage much, but I believe I've seen a few other 50 cent. and/or 1 Boliviano contemp ctfeits before.

Interesting find.

Other than Kleebergs don't really bother with post 1800 material but this one appears interesting - with the shades of green maybe even debased silver unless the pic is OFF. I agree - interesting ... why am I thinking Belleville, NJ? although a late issue (1873) for this counterfeiting center ...?
