This 1852 Braided Hair Large Cent is in an old NGC holder. Variety is Newcomb 3 (N-3). Reverse die has 140 degree c/w rotation. Rich brown luster with hints of red; only a couple of minor nicks on the obverse and a tiny carbon spot. What grade do you think NGC gave this coin years ago? I need to retake the pictures, I think, but I'm tired, I'll do that tomorrow. I don't think these came out as well as I would have liked. Thanks for looking. photos are a bit blurry but I do not see a lick of wear or rub anywhere on the coin. I am at MS61 as well. I think the weaker strike on the stars held it back from a higher MS designation.

Looks potentially MS. I won't assign a grade to such blurry photos.

In the first pics I thought I saw rub on the tip of the crown, top of hair and ear curl. However, the coin looks sharper in the newer pic. I go to 58. Admittedly no expert here. I only have these coins in lower to mid grades, so I am just guessing.

Tough with those photos since the detail elements that determine rub, or not, are not sharp enough for me to really give an honest opinion.
For what I can see, I'd say it just missed MS, so AU-58.

I plan on retaking a couple of pictures tonight.
My EAC grade was 60 sharpness net 55 due to the small nicks and the lone carbon spot. This is an MDS coin with a slightly misaligned obverse die strike (weaker to the northwest, stronger to the southeast) and I did also notice a slight bit of cabinet rub which factored into my net grade.
